Abstract

The Warmbaths district lies on the perimeter of Gauteng (the PWV area), the largest population concentration in South Africa. This makes it part of the ‘pleasure periphery’ of the metropolitan area. The district offers a variety of unique tourism nodes: spa resorts; nature‐orientated time‐share resorts; holiday towns and farms; and private game reserves and hunting farms. Tourism is important in the district economy of Warmbaths. This article discusses the emergence of Warmbaths as a tourism region and the impact of tourism on the economy of the region.
