Abstract

Ameloblastoma is an odontogenic tumor that affects the gnathic bones, especially the mandible, without predilection for either gender, occurring mainly in adults between the third and seventh decades of life. It causes cortical bone expansion and bone and root resorption, resulting in aesthetic and functional damage, with some cases requiring bone reconstruction after removal of the tumor. The aim of this study was to report a clinical case of resection of an odontogenic tumor, ameloblastoma, involving the mandibular branch, condyle, and coronoid region, with immediate alloplastic reconstruction of the region and temporal mandibular joint, using a total prosthesis of the joint. We conclude that resection of the tumor with a margin of safety along with immediate reconstruction is the best treatment option in these cases.
