Abstract

The total reaction cross sections for 22.8-Mev protons on uranium isotopes were determined by measuring cross sections for ($p$, fission), ($p, {p}^{\ensuremath{'}}$), ($p, d$), ($p, t$), and ($p, \ensuremath{\alpha}$). These data are combined with previously measured ($p, \mathrm{xn}$) cross sections to give total reaction cross sections of 1.43\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.10, 1.44\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.10, and 1.39\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.10 barns for 22.8-Mev protons on ${\mathrm{U}}^{233}$, ${\mathrm{U}}^{235}$, and ${\mathrm{U}}^{238}$, respectively. Angular distributions of ($p, {p}^{\ensuremath{'}}$), ($p, d$), ($p, t$), ($p, \ensuremath{\alpha}$), and proton elastic scattering cross sections are shown for ${\mathrm{U}}^{235}$ and ${\mathrm{U}}^{238}$.
