Abstract
It is difficult to accurately decide the position, size, and shape of the skin graft and/or local flap required in some cases of ear reconstruction. We have designed the donor site for local flap or skin graft using a paper model to ensure the maximum use of limited skin. Seven cases of partial and three cases of total ear reconstruction were performed using a paper model. The flap and skin graft designed prior to the operation were successful in all cases with no additional trimming. It is concluded that a paper model is useful for ear reconstruction for the following reasons: easy estimation of the skin needed for the operation (to avoid excess skin harvest), useful for the selection of reconstructive techniques and it contributes to a smooth operation.
