Abstract

The energy-weighted sum rule approach to muon capture is discussed. The Fermi-gas model is used in medium-heavy nuclei to predict the mean neutrino energy—which is found to decrease along the nuclear table—and the total capture rates. Results compare favourably with experimental data.
