Abstract

A 1-D electrooptic lens is demonstrated using a total internal reflectiion (TIR) lens. The experimental beam profiles are compared to theoretical calculations showing an electrically tunable focal length varying from infinity to the order of 10 mm. Despite the small aperture of the lens which limits the range in f/No. to the order of f/100, this device has applications in systems where a small amount of variable lensing is required to maintain beam size.
