Abstract

Total neutron cross sections of Y, Zr, La, Ce, Pr, Gd, Ho, Ta and Hg have been measured with a standard deviation of 2 % or better for the energy range between 1.0 and 2.0 MeV in steps of 10 keV. The energy resolution of the data was 7–8 keV except for Pr for which it was 18 keV. The measured cross sections were compared with other available data. The cross sections for some of the nuclei show large fluctuations. Average cross sections have been compared with optical model results and they show a reasonable agreement.
