Abstract

The total neutron cross sections of V, In, I and Bi have been measured by the transmission method for neutrons of energies between 3.2 and 5.2 MeV. Neutrons of about keV energy spread were produced by bombarding a heavy ice target with deuterons. Broad resonances were observed in all nuclei that suggest flactuations in the level density of the compound nucleus.
