Abstract

We have developed a simple method for the total conversion of racemic 2-chloropropionic acid into d-lactic acid with an enantiomeric excess (e.e.) of about 94%. l-2-Chloropropionic acid is fully converted to d-lactic acid with l-2-halo acid dehalogenase, and the unreacted d-2-chloropropionic acid is dehalogenated chemically, retaining its configuration to produce d-lactic acid.
