Abstract
New notions in the theory of power are introduced for periodic current and voltage waveforms. The definition of apparent power is changed. Total apparent power, fictitious power and power factor are defined for distorted current and voltage waveforms. The main advantage of such a proposition of power theory is the elimination of distortion power and scattered power. Example calculations were carried out for a series RL system supplied by a rectangular voltage. Conditions for the optimal compensation of reactive power of a RLC series system by a parallel RLC system were determined with a proposed power theory application.
