Abstract

Dual stator winding induction machines are gaining attention in specific applications due to their increased reliability and the possibility to split the power between two inverters. Dual stator winding machines can be seen as two induction machines coupled by the rotor. To ensure control independence of both windings, air-gap flux saturation must be avoided. Proper flux orientation of both windings helps to achieve this goal while maximizing the torque per ampere ratio of the machine. The conditions to obtain proper orientation are discussed in this paper as well as a control scheme to perform such orientation.
