Abstract

We experimentally studied the total AC loss properties for Ag-sheathed Bi2223 multifilamentary tapes with a different filament arrangement in an AC longitudinal magnetic field parallel to the tape length. The tapes were prepared by a standard powder-in-tube process and a rectangular deformation process using a two axial roller for the measurements. The total AC losses in samples carrying an AC transport current in an AC longitudinal magnetic field were determined by the sum of the magnetization losses due to AC external magnetic field and the transport losses due to AC transport current, which were separately measured by pick-up coil and voltage taps, respectively. The effect of a filament arrangement in a tape section on the total loss properties in an AC longitudinal magnetic field was discussed.
