Abstract
Numerical electromagnetic field analysis was made to study the total AC loss characteristics of twisted multifilamentary coated conductors carrying AC transport current in an AC transverse magnetic field. The superconducting property was represented with the power law E – J(electric field—current density) characteristic, and the magnetic field component tangential to the wide face of a conductor was neglected to use a thin strip approximation with which current and magnetic flux distributions on a wide face of a coated conductor can be calculated. The transverse resistance between filaments, the amplitude of the transport current, and that of the transverse magnetic field were varied to study magnetic flux penetration processes and total AC loss characteristics.
