Torture of Prisoners and Terrorists: Guantanamo Bay

Abstract

Legitimate or Illegitimate interrogation techniques have always remained a topic in trend for international terrorism & security. In this paper, we would try to recreate and understand the life of prisoners in the deadliest prison, the Prison of Guantanamo Bay in the United States. All the interrogation techniques that will be written about in the paper have been officially sanctioned by the United States government and are used to fight the war on terror. After the coalition victory in Afghanistan in 2002, the united states forces had started to transfer its detainees into its Naval base in Guantanamo Bay Cuba. The detainees were branded as the Al-Qaeda terrorists by the Pentagon quoted “the Best trained Vicious killers on the face of the earth”. It sanctioned a variety of interrogation techniques including sensory deprivation, religious humiliation and severe physical pain. But these methods are hidden from public scrutiny, even the lawyers are not allowed to visit inside the base. In this paper, we try to understand these techniques and decide whether it is legitimate or illegal and also what can be done about it.
