Abstract

ABSTRACT Classical studies related to the problem of the load transfer between a rigid cylindrical inclusion and an elastic halfspace assume perfect bonded contact at the interface. The present paper re-examines the load transfer problem in the light of an interface response which is elastic-perfectly plastic. The non-linear relationship between the applied torque and the corresponding rotation of the cylindrical inclusion is evaluated by employing an analytical-numerical scheme which discretizes the interface shear stress distribution.
