Abstract

Synchronous reluctance motor (SynRM) classified under the category of reluctance motors exhibit higher torque ripple due to its inherent rotor anisotropy. Torque ripple is one of the major disadvantage of the aforesaid motor. This paper provides an in detail investigation on torque ripple reduction with the focus laid on magnetic circuit adjustments in the machine. This motor is intended to be used in electric four wheelers. Magnetic circuit adjustments refer to the design changes in the machine. Finite element analysis (FEA) is used to understand the impact of design parameters like: stator teeth lip height, barrier fillet radius and the barrier bottom radius on average torque, torque ripple. The effect of these parameters on the inductance variation along direct and quadrature axes are also discussed here.
