Abstract
Switched Reluctance Motor (SRM) drives acts an alternative for the PM motor because of its suitable speed-torque characteristics for traction application. However, it exhibits higher torque ripple and larger acoustic noise. Hence, to overcome these problems, controllers are introduced. But the commercial controllers designed for SRM slows down its efficiency while implementing in traction application. Thus, this work modeled a specific controller, for SRM which makes it more suitable for Electric Vehicle (EV). A firefly tuned PI controller is implemented here to minimize torque ripple besides with speed control. It also optimizes the selection of both turn ON/OFF angle. Thus, to examine the efficiency of the proposed controller, the both simulation and hardware results were carried out. From the result analysis, it is observed that the proposed methodology reduces the ripple present in the torque.
