Abstract

This paper proposes a control method for torque response improvement in permanent magnet synchronous motors. In general, the torque response can be improved by using the inverter overmodulation range. However, in the overmodulation range, the performance of the auto current regulator (ACR) deteriorates significantly because disturbance components, which consist of low-order components, are fed back to the controller. As a result, the torque response (including the settling time) is not improved if no measurements are obtained for these components. As mentioned above, this paper proposes a control method for torque response improvement which uses a concept of switching of controllers. In this method, values of the voltage saturation and the current deviation are used to calculate the control mode. In addition, the integrated value of the PI controller (ACR) is changed to avoid the windup phenomenon after changing the control mode. Simulation results will be presented in this paper.
