Abstract

A toroidal current driven by a lower hybrid wave (LHW) is obtained by applying RF power to a toroidal plasma produced by electron cyclotron resonance. The direction as well as the magnitude of the current depend on the supplementary vertical and horizontal magnetic fields, which is explained by confinement of current-carrying electrons in a toroidal device.
