Abstract

In this study, the effect of raw materials based of alkaline earth oxides used in ceramic sanitaryware glazes was investigated on the melting behavior of the glaze. For this purpose, new raw materials based of alkaline earth oxide were included in the Seger formulation and different glaze recipes were prepared. Prepared glaze compositions were applied on fine fire clay bodies with pistole and fired at 1200-1250°C in industrial firing regime. Melting behavior of glazes were investigated with physical flow test samples. The particle size analysis for glaze compositions, thermal expansion test, Harcourt test, L *- a *- b * color measurement and stain resistance tests were applied on all glazed samples. The results showed that the variation of raw material based of alkaline earth oxides has a significant influence on the physical flow lengths and thermal expansion coefficients of glazes without degrading surface quality.
