Abstract

Abstract Topological pumping of the large-scale galactic magnetic field by the galactic fountain flow can be an important effect responsible for μG-strength magnetic fields in gaseous halos of spiral galaxies. The physical nature of this effect is discussed in application to spiral galaxies. In particular, we consider how topological pumping affects galactic dynamos and discuss specific properties of the large-scale galactic magnetic fields embedded in a turbulent flow of interstellar gas.
