Abstract
Abstract Recursion relations and explicit formulas are obtained for the Hosoya index (Z) of molecules containing a linear chain of hexagons. Our main concern is the dependence of Z on h, the length of the linear chain. The asymptotic behaviour of Z for large values of h is established.
