Abstract

This paper reports the density (ρ) and speed of sound (u) data of the binary DIPA+ isomeric butanol mixtures at the temperatures 298.15, 308.15 and 318.15 K. The excess molar volume, VmE, deviation in speed of sound, Δu, and excess isentropic compressibility, κSE, were calculated from the measured data. The excess properties were fitted to Redlich-Kister polynomial equation. VmE values were further analyzed in terms of Prigogine-Flory-Patterson (PFP) theory and Graph theoretical approach. The intermolecular interactions recognized by Graph theoretical approach were also confirmed by IR studies of the present binary mixtures. The speed of sound data were analyzed by Jacobson's free length theory and also predicted by various correlations.
