Abstract

The cage molecule PS3As3, a beautiful example of the operation of the rule of topological charge stabilization, is formed upon mixing P4S3 and As4S3 in the molar ratio 1:3. The rule states that particularly stable structures result from substitution of electronegative heteroatoms at sites where electron charges are more negative in the homoatomic, isoelectronic reference frame (here P⊖).
