Abstract
A lattice version of the two-dimensional abelian Higgs model is derived with emphasis on preserving the topological charge aspect of the continuum theory. The modulus of the Higgs field is not frozen, and a θ angle exists in the lattice quantum theory. It allows us to observe topological charge in Monte Carlo simulation and thus verify the semiclassical dilute vortex gas picture.
