Abstract

A study has been made on the distribution of non-specific esterase within the cerebellar anlage in mouse during development. A weak positive reaction has been revealed in the neural tube even in a 9 days old embryo (neuromeric phase). During the further development of the cerebellum, only a weak, homogeneous positive reaction can be seen up to about 17 days old embryos. From this stage onwards, a strong positive reaction is found in the deep cerebellar nuclei, which stand out clearly against the pale background. Within the cerebellar cortex only a relatively weak positive reaction can be seen. It is suggested that the strong reactivity of the deep cerebellar nuclei may also be of importance in the morphological delimitation of these nuclei in advanced developmental stages.
