Abstract

Infantile hemangioma (IH) is the most common benign soft tissue tumor in infants. The safety and efficacy of propranolol are superior to those of traditional glucocorticoids for the treatment of IH, but oral propranolol can cause systemic complications. Recently, topical beta-blockers have become a new research hotspot in the treatment of IH, including 0.5% timolol ophthalmic solution, 0.1% timolol gel-forming solution, nano-propranolol-dispersed hydrogel, etc. In addition, topical 5% imiquimod ointment, local injections and combined lasers at different wavelengths all can be alternative therapies for IH. This review summarizes topical drug treatment of IH. Key words: Hemangioma; Infant; External application drugs; Laser therapy; Treatment outcome
