Abstract
In the article by Grover and Associates, 1 Grover S. Apushkin M.A. Fishman G.A. Topical dorzolamide for the treatment of cystoid macular edema in patients with retinitis pigmentosa. Strict criteria for the entrance into the study were used, and only 15 subjects with retinitis pigmentosa were treated from a larger population of 121. The small number of patients in the study did not permit clear conclusions to be drawn; however, it seemed that in general, the treated subjects showed a reduction of macular edema but no improvement of visual acuity. ReplyAmerican Journal of OphthalmologyVol. 142Issue 4PreviewOur study1 documented the efficacy of topical dorzolamide for treating cystoid macular edema (CME) in 15 subjects with retinitis pigmentosa (RP). Dr Guiffre opines that the small sample size might preclude any clear conclusions to be drawn. While the sample size was not suitably substantial enough to apply a formal statistical analysis, meaningful inferences can still be made from our observation of findings with the use of dorzolamide for CME in RP patients.
