Abstract
Folklore lives in accordance with society, it changes, new genres are created. With the introduction of Islam to the Kazakh land in folklore, new themes, new subjects and genres also appeared. One of them is the genre - hikayat. Hikayat is a prose work based on a religious story that contains moralizing and moral meaning. The article presents scientific analyzes of the appearance of hikayat on Kazakh soil, the development and research of Kazakh variants stored in a manuscript fund. Plots and episodes from hikayat were analyzed.
