New Hampshire is rarely mentioned even though specimen (and gem) production began in the late 1800s and continues to the present day. In New Hampshire topaz is found in miarolitic cavities within the White Mountain Igneous Province (WMIP). The WMIP formed in two episodes of igneous activity that were the result of a failed rift during the extensional breakup of the supercontinent Pangea.
