Abstract

We study the prompt lepton signal from the semileptonic decay of heavy quarks produced in pp̄ collisions at s = 540 GeV . Phase space and the W boson propagator effects in the decay as well as the heavy quark fragmentation function effects are analyzed. Lepton signals from bottom and top quarks are expected to be comparable in magnitude for P ℓ T ⪸ 20 GeV if the top quark mass is 25–40 GeV. The contribution from the W boson produced top quark is substantial and gives large charge asymmetry in the lepton rapidity distribution.
