Abstract

The main research questions that this symposium addresses are why it is important to examine top executives' emotion in strategic management and how to quantify it to layout future research. Our understanding of managerial emotion is falling behind because we seem only to scratch the surface of the impact of emotional processes of top executives, while studies have been held captive by the cognitive processes of top managers’ decision-making (Hodgkinson & Healey, 2011; Liu et al., 2018; Walsh, 1995). Interactive discussion with experts in this symposium offers insights into the role of top executives' emotional and affective characteristics in different contexts and underlying mechanisms in managerial decision-making. It also encourages scholars to expand emotion studies while exploring various empirical approaches and broader emotional traits.
