Abstract
A case of herpes zoster of the oral cavity involving the mandibular division of the trigeminal nerve is presented. The post-zoster complications of tooth exfoliation, osteonecrosis and neuralgia in the abscence of concurrent local or systemic predisposing factors are demonstrated. 9 cases with similar serious dento-alveolar post-zoster complications previously presented in the literature are reviewed and the etiological rôle of Herpesvirus Varicellae in tooth exfoliation and osteonecrosis of the jaws is discussed.
