Abstract

TiC is used as coating materials to improved surface wear resistance of cold working tool steels, commonly by chemical vapour deposition (CVD) or physical vapour deposition (PVD). In this work the study of the TiC to modify the tool steel surface by producing a dispersion of resolidified TiC particles in a tool steel matrix. The micro-structural evaluation of the laser surface modification has shown some interaction between the substrate material and the TiC, with an important increasing in the Ti content of the steel matrix. Concerning the wear resistance of the laser modified surface, it has been clearly improved compared to that of the conventionally hardened tool steel.TiC is used as coating materials to improved surface wear resistance of cold working tool steels, commonly by chemical vapour deposition (CVD) or physical vapour deposition (PVD).
