Abstract
Micro-milling is a direct and effective manufacturing method for complex three-dimensional miniaturized parts. Since tool runout has a great influence on micro-milling, this paper proposes a simple and effective method for measuring tool runout parameters. The method was based on the displacement measurement, which obtained the tool runout length and tool runout angle by solving some equations related to the cutter parameters. After analyzing the cutting trajectories of the cutter, a single-edge cutting criterion in micro-milling was proposed. According to the single-edge cutting criterion, the influencing factors of single-edge cutting both in micro-side milling and micro-end milling were analyzed respectively. Finally, the influences of single-edge cutting on micro-milling were analyzed and the single-edge cutting phenomenon was verified by the experiment of cutting forces.
