Abstract

The expected rapid increase in the proportion of the population represented by those over 60 years of age will undoubtedly lead to a concurrent increase in the incidence of osteopenia and osteoporosis with associated increased health care costs. This article focuses on the role of high dietary phosphorus intake relative to calcium intake in the etiology of these conditions.
