Abstract

I had not figured Prime Minister Tony Blair as a specialist in deception. However, the way in which he has provoked Labour's trades unions allies over the alleged part-privatisation of the NHS puts him in the category of the D-Day deception geniuses. In 1944, they so deftly persuaded Adolf Hitler that the Allied were going to land in the Pas de Calais area that, at a crucial time, Hitler held back crack Panzers who might have helped push the Allies back into the sea from their precarious footholds in Normandy.
