Abstract

Enlarged tonsils and adenoids have been implicated in dentofacial development and in the developing facial configuration. The growth pattern and the role of these lymphoid tissues are controversial, as are the benefits to be gained by their surgical removal. The diagnosis of enlarged tonsils and adenoids and of mouth breathing is not based on well-defined criteria.
