Abstract

We report on the first case of multiple calcifications in the palatine tonsils in association with a sialolith in the submandibular gland in a 42-year-old man. Due to superimposition of the soft-tissue structures, it is not always possible with panoramic radiography to differentiate calcifications such as sialoliths, phleboliths, or lymph node calcifications from tonsilloliths. A differential diagnosis can be made by obtaining successive axial computed tomography (CT) sections. Unilateral or bilateral tonsilloliths are extremely uncommon findings, and their radiological interpretation may not be determinant.
