Abstract
Objective To systematically review the effect of Tongue-tie division on infants with breastfeeding difficulties. Methods The Cochrane Library, PubMed, CNKI and Wanfang data were searched for relevant articles. Two reviewers independently assessed studies against predetermined inclusion/exclusion criteria and extracted data regarding study design. RevMan 5.3 software was used to conduct Meta-analysis. Results A total of 151 articles were retrieved and finally 15 articles were included, which involved 1 133 infants. Tongue-tie division provided objective improvements in poor latch, inefficient feeding, poor weight gain. Subjective improvements were also noted. But the results were inconsistent on pain improvement. Tongue-tie division increased breastfeeding rate. Conclusions Available evidence suggests that Tongue-tie division can improve breastfeeding, complications are rare, and it is acceptable by families. Key words: Breast feeding; Pain; Ankyloglossia; Tongue-tie division; Latch
