Abstract
The requirements for geometry tolerancing of engineering products in computer based analysis systems are first established; and the need is stressed for further research to determine the most effective system. The proposed geometry tolerancing system suggested by Requicha is compared with the ISO system, and areas of disagreement are identified and analysed. It is shown by example chat any computer based system must make provision for the requirements of functional analyses and the needs of production and inspection if satisfactory economic solutions are to be obtained. The ISO system meets these requirements, but the proposed Requicha system does not and is biased towards mathematical simplicity. Finally, an outline is presented of a suitable computer based system at present being developed at the University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia.
