Abstract

Background: The Wada test consists of a selective intracarotid injection of a fast acting barbiturate drug, generally sodium amobarbital, which reversibly inhibits the ipsilateral cerebral hemisphere, to isolate the contralateral hemisphere and evaluate its activity. Intracarotid administration of propofol has been used as an alternative drug to amobarbital for evaluation of memory and language, avoiding postsurgical amnesic and aphasic syndromes.
