Abstract

Tokenism exists in all the likely places where racism, sexism, and other forms of discrimination lurk. It is the practice, however unconscious, of choosing (read: using) people to create the appearance of diversity when indeed the dynamics of power have not changed one whit. For example, hiring one person of color in an academic department of twenty is tokenism.
