Abstract

The writer discusses three paintings that can now be added to the now well-known oeuvre of Adriaen Coorte. A painting in the Musee Municipal of Bernay, France, depicts three plums on a twig sitting on the distinctive stone “Coorte ledge” and is, to date, the smallest work known by Coorte. Recently discovered in Dutch private collections, Still life of strawberries in an earthenware bowl and Still life with a peach and two apricots on a stone ledge, together with two butterflies are signed still-life paintings by Coorte, and appear to have their provenance in Middelburg, though they were certainly not intended as pendants.
