Abstract
SummaryTo FIND out if adequate levels are produced, tobramycin concentrations in the fallopian tube and ovary were measured in 12 patients undergoing salpingo-oophorectomy. The verbal consent of all the patients was obtained. Three of the patients studied (10, 11 and 12) were postmenopausal. The mean age of the patients was 44·21±11·6 years (range 21-60). No other medication was given and the renal function of all patients was normal. Tobramycin 1 mg/kg was given intramuscularly. One hour later a 2 cm section from the middle of the tube and one-half of the ovary on the same side were removed. Simultaneously with the tissue specimens, blood samples were taken from the antecubital vein for determination of plasma tobramycin concentrations.
