Abstract

Leaf disks of Nicoliana tabacum var. Delcrest metabolize p-coumaric and ferulic acids with the formation of the corresponding glucose esters and O-β- d-glucosides. In 40 hr more glucoside accumulates than glucose ester, when either acid is supplied. These findings are discussed in the light of recent reports that glucose esters are the predominant metabolic products of hydroxycinnamic acids in higher plants.
