Abstract

Abstract A method is described for sequential differential solvent extraction of tobacco, using petroleum ether (38-58°C), tetrahydrofuran, acetonitrile, 95% ethanol, 20% water-dioxane, and water. The method is suitable for the monitoring of tobacco fermentation, the differentiation between cigarette and cigar filler tobaccos, and the assaying of the tobacco content of cigar wrapper material or manufactured reconstituted tobacco sheets.
