Abstract
An overview of the literature data on holoprozencephaly is given. It is considered a classic look on this congenital pathology. The opinions of modern researchers are given. The reasons for the large mosaicity of the echographic and radiological images of the same variant of the anomaly are analyzed. It is concluded that holoprozencephaly does not consist of three stable neuroanatomical forms, but is a continuous spectrum of anomalous development of proencephalon without clear boundaries, starting with the most severe variants and ending with microscopic forms.
