Abstract

Schier's paper 1 Schier F Laparoscopic surgery of inguinal hernias in children—Initial experience. J Pediatr Surg. 2000; 35: 1331-1335 Abstract Full Text Full Text PDF PubMed Scopus (88) Google Scholar on the laparoscopic repair of inguinal hernias in children describes a simple and elegant approach to the closure of a hernial sac. Although he argues that this approach does not require the inguinal canal to be opened, thus avoiding trauma to the cord structures, many pediatric surgeons have difficulty adopting this technique, because they would argue that conventional inguinal herniotomy in itself is minimally invasive. This is in spite of evidence suggesting that conventional inguinal herniotomy in infants is not without significant morbidity. 2 Surana R Puri P Is contralateral exploration necessary in infants with unilateral inguinal hernia?.
