Abstract
Although groundwater mining is an obvious means of increasing water supply to meet the demands of a growing population, it is in many areas a debatable issue. The advantages and disadvantages of continued mining of groundwater in the Chicago, III., area, as determined through a series of studies conducted by the Illinois State Water Survey, are discussed.
